Improbable Fiction

7 Feb – 1 Mar 2025

By Alan Ayckbourn

Welcome to the village of Pendon and its local writer’s circle; a group of six creatively mired and artistically deluded scribes. There’s Jess, struggling with her historical romance. Grace, longing to write a children’s book for her now adult children. Sci-fi obsessed Clem. Vivvi who’s into detective fiction. Brevis, adapting the unadaptable into a musical. And the amiable Arnold whose house they all meet in, and the group’s only published author – of instruction manuals.

Inevitable personality clashes and relationship issues abound but, after one particularly acrimonious meeting, something magical happens as the writer’s half-baked characters literally come to life. As genres intertwine and mysteries are solved, ordinary people create something extraordinary with hilarious consequences.

Alan Ayckbourn is acknowledged as a master of stage comedy. Improbable Fiction, his 69th play, will leave you knowing why.

What a wonderfully imaginative play!
