What happens when a couple decide to keep their marriage sparkling by living a fully authentic 1950’s lifestyle – down to the last teaspoon, coat button, Formica tabletop and devilled egg?
Judy and her husband Johnny immerse themselves in the 50s after she leaves her job for a more “idyllic” existence – trading finance management for domestic management. But the shiny veneer starts to crack when Johnny’s much needed promotion seems forever out of reach and the money that fuels their lifestyle runs dry.
Judy’s mother, aghast at her daughter’s abandonment of everything she taught her, further dulls the sheen whilst best friend Marcus reminds us of the seedier side of the 50s. Can Judy and Johnny stay true to the good old days? Should they even try?
Home, I’m Darling won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy in 2018. Dark, witty and with lots of fabulous fifties fashion, music and décor, this absolute gem of a play should not be missed.
