The War of the Worlds

Nov 6th  – 15th

The War Of the Worlds
DIRECTED BY Bernard Teuben

As a welcome back to the Pavilion, we will be performing a Staged Reading of the Orson Welles Radio drama, famous for panicking North America. It may very well have been the birth of fake news.

It was Sunday, October 30, at 8 p.m, a prime-time spot in the golden age of
radio, when Orson Welles famous dramatisation began, but most listeners
were tuned into NBC’s popular ‘The Chase and Sanborn Hour.’ When that
show finished, Americans tuned into the Mercury Theater, which was now
12 minutes into the broadcast and by then the Martian invasion was well

It was a time when the media was so trusted that most listeners believed
every word coming from their wireless. Whilst we are more discerning today, this staged reading seemed a fitting way to welcome back our members and subscribers to The Pavilion Theatre. To achieve this, we need to follow strict protocols to ensure the health and safety of our patrons, performers and volunteer staff. So here’s the fine print – think of it as the first 12 minutes that many listeners in 1938 missed.

All tickets are free, and will be available shortly for members and 2019/20 Subscribers; so please keep an eye on your email and our website for more information. Booking will be required, there will be no walkups.

Booking will now entail providing a name and phone number for each ticket as we are required to track attendance on each performance of this staged reading.

Performances will be on:

Friday November 6 & 13 @ 7:30pm
Saturday November 7 & 14 @ 7:30pm
Sunday November 8 & 15 @ 4:30pm
